Choosing your chain kit

Choosing your chain kit

A motorbike chain kit, consisting of a gearbox output sprocket, a rear sprocket and a transmission chain (connecting the sprocket and the sprocket), simply allows your motorbike to move forward (it links the engine block to the rear wheel).

The choice of the most suitable chain kit will depend on the model of motorcycle/quad and the use you make of it. To make it easier for you, Kit And Ride offers several brands and series of chain kits directly adapted for your motorbike after you have selected your model.

The gearbox output sprocket

Whatever the type of chain or sprocket, your gearbox output sprocket is always proposed in treated steel but depending on the type of motorbike, sometimes proposed with anti-mud (motocross) or with rubber on both sides of the sprocket, to obtain less noise.

The rear sprocket

Depending on the motorbike model and its use, the crown is proposed in steel or high resistance aluminium (aluminium being lighter and proposed especially for motocross or racing/track use). We also offer bi-component steel/aluminium sprockets for certain motorbike models (contact us).

The drive chain

Kit And Ride offers you different series of chains, directly compatible for your motorbike, but with their own characteristics so that you can select the one most adapted to your riding style.

For some motorbike models, we offer you the choice between O-ring and non-O-ring chains (especially for motocross use) in reinforced, super or hyper reinforced quality (higher tensile strength / especially for intensive use).

The closing link

Depending on your motorbike model, we offer your chain kit with either a crimped or a quick-release fastener (with clips). All our chain kits are automatically supplied with a closing link. To ensure the safety of the riders, we recommend a crimping clamp for engines above 600cc (some chain brands do not offer a quick clamp for larger engines). However, you can choose the type of fastener yourself if this choice is offered on our site. Your chain can also be closed by us (make sure you can remove the swingarm from your motorbike beforehand).

The gear ratio

The gear ratio is the ratio between the number of teeth of your sprocket and your crown wheel. Depending on the use of your motorbike, you can optimise the gear ratio in order to improve the torque (in common parlance "pull shorter" by removing one tooth from your pinion or adding 2 or 3 teeth to your crown) or the top speed (in common parlance "pull longer" by adding one tooth to your pinion and/or removing 2 or 3 teeth from your crown).

By default, we offer you the chain kits with the original teeth for the sprocket and the sprocket and a chain with the same length as the original one. Kit And Ride also offers you sprockets and crowns in different gearings and, thanks to our visualization tool on the product page of your chain kit, you will be able to easily evaluate the effect you want to obtain compared to the original gearing !
